Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. You can also find us as CCL (short for Cuentas Claras LATAM). Searching for 'CCL' on the App Store or Google Play will also bring up the app.
No. Cuentas Claras LATAM does NOT handle real money or process payments. We are solely an organizational tool that helps you keep track of who owes what to whom. Real financial transactions take place outside the app and are the users' responsibility.
You can add friends in several ways: 1) Searching by their username (e.g., @juanito), 2) Entering their personal invitation code (format: CCL-XXXXXXX), 3) Scanning their QR code from the app, or 4) Searching by phone number. Go to Friends > Add friend to get started.
First, people must be your friends in the app. Once they are friends, go to your group > Members > Invite members. There you can select the friends you want to add and send them an invitation. They will receive a notification to accept or decline.
Yes. We use SSL/TLS encryption for all communications and data encryption at rest. We work with trusted providers (such as AWS, Supabase, Firebase, and RevenueCat) with contractual relationships who comply with industry security standards. We never sell your information. See our Privacy Notice for full details.
Subscriptions are managed directly from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android), not from the app. iOS: Settings > Your name > Subscriptions > Cuentas Claras LATAM > Cancel. Android: Google Play Store > Profile > Subscriptions > Cuentas Claras LATAM > Cancel. Upon cancellation, you will keep premium access until the end of the already-paid period.

No. You can download Cuentas Claras and use all free features without entering any payment method. You will only need a card if you decide to activate Premium later, and billing is handled directly through the App Store or Google Play.
No. You can cancel your Premium subscription at any time from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Upon cancellation, you keep Premium access until the end of the already-paid period, with no additional charges or fine print.
You can register your bank account details from Settings > Payment information. This lets you easily look it up when needed, and lets people who are going to pay you outside the app know which account to transfer to. When recording a payment in the app, the payer can also indicate the method they used (bank transfer, cash, etc.).
No. Each debt is recorded individually between the people involved. If A owes B and B owes C, the app does not automatically combine them. This is intentional so that the payment history is clear and transparent for everyone.
When you add an expense with a friend, you are the one who paid. You can choose to split it 50/50 (your friend owes you half) or record the full amount as a debt (your friend owes you everything). Your friend will receive a notification to accept or decline the expense. You can also mark someone as a "Trusted Friend" from their profile. Expenses created by a trusted friend are automatically accepted without manual confirmation.
When you add an expense in a group, you are the one who paid. You can split it automatically (equal shares among all members) or manually, assigning a specific amount to each member. All group members will receive a notification with their share.
The monthly spending bar shows how much money has left your pocket this month. You set a limit (for example $5,000) and the bar fills up as you spend. The bar has two colors. Cyan is your real expense — money you already spent that won't come back (clothing, food, transport, personal expenses). Green is money you fronted for someone else that will come back when they pay you. For example, if you pay a $400 dinner with a friend split 50/50, the bar shows $200 in cyan (your share) and $200 in green (what your friend owes you). When your friend pays you the $200 through the app, the green disappears automatically. Important: if someone else pays and you owe them, the bar doesn't change until you pay them back. It only counts when money leaves your pocket, not when a debt is created.
It's for registering income you received (paycheck, refund, gift, etc.). The amount is deducted from your monthly expenses. For example, if you have $800 in expenses and register $500 of income, your expenses drop to $300. The maximum you can deduct is your current total — you can't go below $0. It's useful for tracking how much you've actually spent after accounting for your income.
When you request account deletion, you have a 7-day grace period during which you can cancel the request by logging back into the app. After that, your account and personal data are permanently deleted from our servers. When confirming deletion you will see an optional checkbox: "Also delete my uploaded receipts". If you check it, all your expense receipts and payment proofs will be permanently deleted from our servers. If you leave it unchecked, the receipts will be anonymized (personal data removed) and will remain visible to other participants of those shared expenses. This action cannot be undone.
Yes. When recording an expense or payment, you can take a photo or select an image from your gallery as a receipt. These receipts are saved in the app and you can view them at any time from the history.
Yes. From any friend's profile you can assign them a custom nickname. This nickname is completely private: only you can see it. It is useful for quickly identifying people with similar names.
Yes. You can add "people without the app" from the Friends section. These are contacts you give a name to (they don't need an account) and with whom you can record debts: money they owe you or you owe them. Useful for keeping track with family, coworkers, or anyone who doesn't use Cuentas Claras. With the free version you can add up to 5 people without the app. With Premium, up to 20.
Yes. You need to register with your email address and create a password. We verify your email for security before you can use the app. You can also recover your password at any time if you forget it.
Yes. Cuentas Claras LATAM is free with all the essential features for splitting expenses. There is an optional Premium version with additional benefits such as unlimited groups, more storage, and no ads.
Go to your friend's profile and tap "Pay debt". Enter the amount you paid, select the payment method (bank transfer, cash, etc.) and optionally attach a receipt. Your friend will receive a notification to confirm they received the payment.
